This is an absolutely charming dish, made in Brittany, France, by the BCI (Bretagne Céramique Industrie) from the 1980's. It is from a collection designed around rowing/fishing boats from various European countries, this one is Italian.
It was originally made to be used as oven to table cookware but I've styled it as a bathroom soap dish or candle holder, as it would make a great accessory in a nautical bathroom/washroom setting.
An unusual gift for anyone who loves 'sea themed' interior décor. Perfect for beach huts and holiday homes by the sea.
Glazed white on the inside and green on the outside, it is beautifully detailed in the exact shape of a little Italian gondola boat, rising gently to points at the ends, with ridges reminiscent of boat timbers.
It measures 27cms/10½" long x 10cms/4" wide x 5cms/2", at it's deepest, and weighs 500gms/1.1lbs.
In perfect condition, with no chips, scratches or cracks. It is clearly marked 'BCI, Du Océan, Italie' on the base, and numbered '04.11.038', as these were limited edition ceramics.
