A stack of six antique French books in faded creamy vanilla/yellow tones. They are "aged to perfection" and look lovely tied up with twine and displayed on a coffee table, sideboard, mantelpiece, bedside table or dresser. The covers have faded with time to subtle, dusky, soft shades and the pages are yellowed with age, with age spots. They make excellent film and photo props and would be ideal for a boho, or shabby chic, themed wedding as a table centerpiece decoration.

The six books are all paperback editions, distressed from years of genuine use. Most importantly they have that "old book smell" reminiscent of libraries and bookshops from a by-gone era - fabulously comforting.

The titles are:

Chateaubriand. Jules LeMaitre (1912 edition.) This book studies the life of François-René, Vicomte de Chateaubriand (1768–1848.) A French writer, politician, diplomat and historian who founded Romanticism in French literature.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Jules LeMaitre (1913 edition.)A study of the life and works of Jean-Jacques Rousseau (28 June 1712 – 2 July 1778.) A Genevan philosopher, writer and composer. His political philosophy influenced the progress of the Enlightenment throughout Europe, as well as aspects of the French Revolution and the development of modern political, economic and educational thought. The front cover of this book has become detached, but it is complete.

Oeuvres de Rabelais, Tome Premiere and Tome II. (c.1920 editions.) François Rabelais (1483 – 1553) was a French Renaissance writer, physician, Renaissance humanist, monk and Greek scholar. These books contain his best known work, Gargantua and Pantagruel, considered to be one of the first forms of the modern novel.

Etudes sur les Tragiques Grecs, Euripide, Tome II. H. Patin (1913 edition.) A study of the works of Euripides (c. 480 – c. 406 BC) A tragedian of classical Athens. Along with Aeschylus and Sophocles, he is one of the three ancient Greek tragedians for whom any plays have survived in full.

Etudes sur les Tragiques Grecs, Sophocle. H. Patin (1913 edition.) A study of the works of Greek tragedian Sophocles (c. 497/6 – winter 406/5 BC)

One or two of the books have some of their pages uncut/not separated - they have been like this since publication - and are all the more charming for it. They have also gathered pencilled scholarly notes, remarks, comments, on the pages, over the years. I've left them exactly as I found them because they're authentic.

To display them altogether, in a bundle, you will need a minimum space of 15cms/ 6" high x 19cms/ 7½" long x 13cms/ 5" deep.
They weigh 2.4kgs/ 5.3 lbs.
