A lovely French stoneware pot with lid. A gorgeous accent piece for a period kitchen / rustic farmhouse. Excellent for storing kitchen utensils or as planters for herbs. Perfect for tea, coffee or sugar too!
Handmade, it has a charming, slightly uneven, surface texture and rough glaze style. It has a glossy finish and is stamped "Made in France" on the base. This type of pottery "Grès de Bonny", based in the Loire region of France, started manufacturing in 1881 and finally closed its doors in 2014.
Salt glazed, with two handles, and lid, it is in excellent condition, still watertight and clean. Utterly charming, it has all the original clay marks, so shows the makers flaws and gouges, that were present at the firing and glazing stages. It has no chips or cracks and is "aged to perfection", authentic and original. It weighs 700gms/ 1.5 lbs. It stands 12.5cms/ 5" tall (with lid), is 10cms/ 4" diameter (at the base), 12cms/ 4¾" wide to the handle. The opening is 7.5cms / 3".
It has been left unglazed at the lip and on the inside, and top, of the lid. It has tactile ridges around the rims and handles to aid grip.
Provincial French country pottery is very collectible. Stylish in it's simplicity.
