This is an extra long, rare, oval fish serving platter measuring 56.5cms/ 22¼" long x 21.5cms/ 8½" wide. It is deep too, 4cms/ 1½", so that the fish can be served with sauces and dressings, without risk of spillage. It is enormous, weighing 1.4kgs/ 3 lbs! In excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, it has the 'Paris 2, Porcelaine France' mark on the underside.
It has a smooth, gilt line border and the most incredibly detailed illustration of a Turbot and a Skate surrounded by lemon slices, mushrooms, mussels, prawns and parsley. The colors are amazing and the accuracy and fine details of the images is simply stunning. The words read "Le Turbot et la Raie, Sauce Aurore" (Turbot and Skate in an Aurore Sauce.) Aurora sauce is a creamy tomato sauce for fish. It is made by adding tomato purée to a basic béchamel sauce or velouté sauce. The sauce is known as "aurore", the French word for "sunrise," which is the gorgeous pinkish-red color the sauce becomes after adding the tomato to the classic French sauce.
This would make an ideal table centerpiece for serving a beautifully prepared Trout, Salmon or other fish. It would also be a wonderful party or buffet piece, for serving stylish canapés and nibbles, to add elegance to your setting.
