This is a set of six cheese plates and cheese platter illustrated with famous French cheeses, alongside French wines that would be the ideal accompaniment to them.
What a great present for a cheese and wine connoisseur.
There cannot be a more stylish way to serve your cheese course at dinner parties than on these plates.

Each plate measures 19.5cms/7½" diameter and they weigh 350gms/ 12.4ozs each. They are in perfect condition, with no chips, scratches or cracks.
The platter measures 30cms/ 11¾" diameter and weighs 1kg/ 2.2 lbs. It has a metal handle that can be unscrewed for ease of storage or transportation. It is also in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks or scratches.

Each plate is illustrated with a type of French cheese. The detailed illustrations show the cheeses alongside the correct accompanying drink to serve with them, red or white wine or Champagne. They are wonderful to look and have an autumnal 'feel', with gorgeous leaves, in the foreground, and vineyards in the background. The warm palette of muted green and browns give them a certain 'rustic charm'. They have a French provincial 'feel' that would make them ideal for a farmhouse country kitchen.

The Designs are:

Camembert: A soft, creamy, surface-ripened cow's milk cheese. It was first made in the late 18th century at Camembert, Normandy, in northern France. The illustration also has a bottle of France's famous "Beaujolais Villages" (1970 vintage!) wine as an accompaniment.

Port- Salut: A semi-soft pasteurised cow's milk cheese from Pays de la Loire, France, with a distinctive orange rind and a mild flavour, alongside a bottle of "Champagne, Reims".

Munster: A strong-smelling soft cheese with a subtle taste, made mainly from milk first produced in the Vosges, between Alsace-Lorraine and Franche-Comté regions in France. The illustration shows a "Vin d'Alsace"" (1969 vintage!) as the perfect accompaniment.

Chèvre de Selles sur Sher (usually "Cher"): A small soft goat cheese, with a flowery crust produced from the raw milk of the animal. It goes perfectly with bottle of Rosé "Côtes de Rhone".

Pont L'Eveque: It is believed that this cow's milk cheese derived it's name from the Norman abbey in Normandy, France where it was mainly produced during the 12th century. It is accompanied by a bottle of Red "Bordeaux Superieur" wine.

Bleu d'Auvergne: A blue cheese made from raw cow's milk. It is accompanied by a bottle of red "Grand Bourgogne" wine.

Rare and collectible they provide a great excuse to buy a bottle of Champagne, or Beaujolais, wine and try them all!

The platter has a 'gallery' of all six of the plate designs.
