G.H.Mumm & Co. (Vinicole (wine producer) de Champagne) is a prestigious Champagne producer based in Reims, France since 1827.
The front of the bucket bears the famous, and instantly recognizable, 'Cordon Rouge' Red Band Logo, that exactly matches the 'G.H Mumm' champagne bottles, which have the same red ribbon band diagonally across the front. The Champagne is 'BRUT' meaning 'Dry' and I found this description of the champagne on their website:
Mumm - Cordon Rouge
'Ce champagne est un liquide doré, clair et étincelant, abondamment parcouru de fines bulles élégantes'. (This champagne is a golden liquid, clear and sparkling, abundantly covered with elegant fine bubbles.)
'Le nez révèle des arômes de fruits frais mûrs (pêches blanches et jaunes, abricots) ainsi que des touches tropicales (litchi et ananas). L'on découvre tout d'abord une saveur de vanille qui évolue ensuite en touches de caramel au lait, de chapelure et de levain, et se termine par des arômes de fruits secs et de miel'. (The nose reveals aromas of ripe fresh fruit (white and yellow peaches, apricots) as well as tropical touches (lychee and pineapple). We first discover a vanilla flavor that then evolves into caramel-to-milk, breadcrumbs and sourdough touches, and ends with aromas of dried fruit and honey.)
It is in great condition and, considering its age, there is very little damage to this bucket. It has obviously seen some action in bars and bistros over the years but is still in remarkably good condition. It has no major dents, just odd 'dints'. It has scratches across the surface, consistent with use and some discoloration, from years of holding ice and water, but it has many, many years of service still to offer.
It has sturdy handles with 'rings', making it easy to carry without needing to touch the cold bucket. It is stamped 'made in France' on the underside.
The bucket stands 20cms (7¾") tall and is tapered measuring 15cms (6") diameter at the bottom and 20cms (7¾") diameter at the top. It weighs 500gms (1.1lbs).
I have left this bucket exactly as I found it, without cleaning it because I love the authentic patina of its vintage appearance.
