This is a fabulous vintage, French, "Champagne J. de Telmont," ice bucket /wine cooler from the 1970's.
Now iconic and very collectible these ice buckets were a promotional item, never for sale to the general public, given to restaurants, bars and bistros all over France to promote this brand of French Champagne.
The front of this bucket bears the famous, and instantly recognizable, "Champagne J. de Telmont, Damery près Epernay (Marne)" logo with the "Knight's Helm, and motto "Nec pluribus impar" — ‘Unlike any other” emblem.
Founded in 1912, this wine producing family, now in its fourth generation, produces Champagne from their own lands of over 30 hectares, in 8 crus, planted with the three grape varieties of Champagne.
In total, their supply comes from 107 hectares of vineyard spread over 40 different villages.
This ice bucket is in excellent condition with no dents. Considering its age, there is very little damage to this bucket. It has obviously seen some action in French bars and bistros over the years but is still in remarkably good condition. It has scratches across the surface, consistent with it's age and use, and some discoloration on the inside, from years of holding ice and water, but it has many, many years of service still to offer.
I have left this bucket exactly as I found it, without cleaning it, because I love the authentic patina of its vintage appearance.
It has sturdy handles in an art deco inspired 'fan' design, making it easy to carry.
It is stamped "HEBERT, made in France" on the underside.
The bucket stands 20cms (7¾") tall and is tapered measuring 13cms (5") diameter at the bottom and 20cms (7¾") diameter at the top. It weighs 300gms (10.5 ozs).
