This is a gorgeous, speckled, handmade, stoneware, pottery jar with an integrated 'tongs rest' and vintage cork stopper. Rare and collectible. It has been scored with the French word 'Cerises' (Cherries) before firing, making it wonderfully textured.
Handmade pottery jars, such as this one, are perfect for medieval re-enactments and medieval / boho wedding table settings.
It oozes rustic charm.
The pot comes with a set of vintage, wooden tongs and a really chunky cork stopper, which is also 'vintage' and so gnarled, rough and worn in places which adds to the charm and 'rustic' appearance of this gorgeous jar.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. It has a couple of 'nibbles' at the base and an unglazed spot on the rim.
It is solid and sturdy, with a stable shape, weighted towards the bottom. Glazed in a 'rough' style, of neutral oatmeal/taupe colors, it has burnt umber and raw sienna speckles across its entire surface, both inside and outside. It has a slight iridescence to the glaze from the kiln firing, which creates a textured quality from the 'speckled' air bubbles formed during the glazing process. It is incredibly tactile.
It stands 17cms / 7½" tall, including the cork, is 12.5cms/ 5" diameter, at the base, the opening is 7.5cms/ 3". It weighs 1kg / 2.2 lbs!
Great for rustic, country kitchen and French provincial style interiors. It is utterly charming.
