Made by France's famous cookware manufacturer 'Le Creuset' these six fondue plates date from the late 1970's. Their creamy antique white glaze makes them ideal for ‘Jeanne d’Arc’ Nordic/French country style kitchens for a simple, Scandinavian look.
'Fondue' is a Swiss dish of melted cheese served in a communal pot over a portable stove heated with a candle or spirit lamp, and eaten by dipping bread into the cheese using long-stemmed forks. Fondue parties became very popular in the 1970's. Meat fondue's are based on the same principal with hot fat being melted in the pot and then small chunks/cubes of meats or fish being dipped until cooked.
The plates are divided into five sections (four smaller segments for different sauces and one larger well for the cubed cheese or meat), they stack neatly on top of each other.
Each Plate carries the 'LE CREUSET Made in France' Mark on the undersides
They each measure 26cms/ 10¼" diameter. and weigh 700gms/1.5lbs!
They are in excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks.
