An unusual set of six asparagus plates and matching asparagus serving platter.
This set of 1970's, Italian, Majolica plates are shaped as bunches of asparagus, tied with string. These plates are rare and collectible. The detail of the asparagus tips is gorgeous.
Colorful and tactile, each plate has a raised 'sauce bowl' at one end, for serving the steamed asparagus with Hollandaise butter sauce.
Stylish and unusual they would make a stunning addition to your dinner party.
They are all in excellent condition, they have the beginnings of some 'hairline glaze crackle', which is to be expected with the age of this set and does not in any way detract from the beauty or functionality of these fabulous plates. They have many years of service yet to offer.
There is one small graze on the inner edge of just one sauce bowl, on one of the plates. Please see the last photo. It is barely noticeable at normal viewing distance.
The plates each weigh 600gms / 1.3 lbs and are 26cms/ 10¼" long x 22cms/ 8½" wide.
The platter weighs 900gms / 2 lbs and is 33cms/ 13" long x 22cms/ 8½" wide.
They all have the Italian 'Italica ARS' mark on the undersides.
The Italica ARS pottery was founded at the beginning of 1900's. Production in the 1960's and 1970's called on famous artists, painters and ceramicists to create original works. The company closed in 2009.
