This set of six vintage French, "Moulin des Loups" fish plates. They are rare and collectible, dating from the 1950's.
All these plates are in excellent condition, for their 70 year age. They all have the "MOULIN DES LOUPS 'ORCHIES' NORD" France ("Mill of wolves" in English) mark on the underside. They have some "wear" to the gilding and some slight scratches to the motifs, consistent with their age and use, but nothing whatsoever to detract from the beauty or functionality of this fabulous set. They have the slightest beginnings of some desirable "hairline" crackle to the glazes too, to complete their "vintage" look. There is one microscopic chip in just one plate edge, barely detectable (see last photo.)
They all have a tactile, fluted, edge and "gilt trim" line border. The wide pastel duck egg blue band finishes with a delicate "filigree" lace gilt pattern.
The plates measure 23cms/ 9" diameter and each weighs 350gms/ 12.4ozs.
There are six different designs illustrating various freshwater fish, such as Pike, Salmon, Trout, Perch and Roach, swimming amongst reeds and seashells.
The colors and details of the illustrations are incredibly accurate and realistic.
Perfect for fish lovers the world over these would make a truly original present for anyone who loves fishing and cooking fish.
