This large, rare and collectible, Limoges porcelain platter would make an ideal table centerpiece for serving a beautifully prepared confit or magret de canard, duck dish. It has a gorgeous illustration of a pair of ducks flying over reeds on a lake, surrounded by a border of leaping deer, running hare, wild boar, pheasant, flying snipe and duck. The images are amazing in their detail, with the forests and woodlands in a muted palette of subtle, autumnal tones, giving this platter a sophisticated, timeless quality.
It is antique white in colour with an ochre and black edge border.
It is in remarkable condition for its 70 year age. There are no chips or cracks, some slight wear to the motifs, which is to be expected with its age and use, but nothing whatsoever to detract from its beauty or functionality.
It measures 37cms / 14½" long x 26cms / 10¼" wide and weighs 900gms/ 2 lbs.
It is deep, at the edges, 4.5 cms/ 1 ¾", so that the meat can be served with sauces and dressings, without risk of spillage.
It is clearly marked "Limcolor, Terrassson, G. Brachet" on the underside.
It would also be a wonderful party or buffet piece, for serving patés/ canapés /entrée/ hors d'oeuvre (starter) courses, to add style to your setting.
It would also look great displayed on a wall in a hunting lodge / country manor setting.
