This is a very rare 1960's, majolica glazed, mid century bowl.
Anyone who collects majolica glazed mid century pottery would love this wonderful piece.
It would make a gorgeous table centerpiece for any rustic farmhouse or rural country cottage kitchen, with an autumnal color scheme. Great for serving stylish canapés with before dinner drinks. A beautiful platter for seafood and fruit displays for fall/autumn themed weddings and banquets. It would look stunning on an entrance hall table for storing keys etc.
This bowl has been hand-painted in an expressive mid-century modern, highly textured design that typically characterizes the Vallauris region of South-Eastern France's pottery, celebrated for its beautiful glazes and extraordinary shapes.
The deep "chocolate brown" base glaze of this bowl has been overlaid with a gorgeous "fiery red/orange" glaze with a white "foam" accent, which radiates to the 'scalloped' edges.
Shaped as a giant shell it has ridges that are incredibly tactile and alluring.
It is large measuring 33cms/13" x 29cms/11½", at its widest points, and is 9cms/3½" deep.
It is heavy weighing 2.4kgs/ 5.3lbs!
It is in excellent condition with no chips, scratches or cracks.
