It is clearly marked ‘Vercor’ on the glazed underside.
Vercors is a massif of mountains and plateaus east of the Rhône Valley, between the valleys of the rivers Drôme and Isère, in the Rhône Alpes region of South-Eastern France. It is famous for its hand painted ceramics, in much the same way as it's neighbour 'Vallauris', and celebrated for its beautiful majolica glazes and extraordinary shapes.
This bowl has been hand-painted in a bold mid-century modern, highly textured design that typically characterizes the region’s pottery.
The brown base glaze of this bowl has been overlaid with a gorgeous mixture of fiery orange/red, for the flower petals and buds, and a deep forest green, for the leaves.
It's irregular shape makes it fascinating to view from all angles and it is incredibly tactile.
Perfect as a seafood platter for a table centerpiece and equally beautiful as a fruit bowl. Perfect for serving canapés with aperitifs.
Anyone who collects majolica glazed mid century pottery would love this wonderful piece.
It measures 30cms/11¾" x 26cms/10¼" and is 5.5cms/2" deep. It weighs 1.1kgs/ 2.4lbs.
It is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks.
