They look fabulous when displayed together or alongside other stoneware items in a farmhouse kitchen and would make an interesting gift for anyone who brews their own beer or wine.
The porcelain stoppers on these bottles still work perfectly, in spite of the slight degradation to the rubber seals, and nowadays would be ideal to store your homemade lemonade or home brewed beer.
You could also use them as hot water bottles or stylish thermos!
Considering their age they are in great condition, the metal clasps are slightly rusty, and the rubber of the stoppers is starting to show signs of degradation, but this simply adds to the authenticity and charm of the bottles and in fact, along with the odd 'dint/chip' out of the porcelain stopper and a little 'wear' at the lips gives them an 'aged to perfection' feel.
The stoneware bottles themselves are watertight, with no cracks, and are glazed in a gorgeous glossy 'oatmeal' beige and shiny 'chestnut' rich brown. They are very tactile with the outside of the bottles having a textured quality from the 'speckled' air bubbles formed during the glazing process. One of the brown bottles is embossed '<14' at the base.
They stand 30cms - 31cms / 11¾" - 12" tall and are 8.5cms - 9cms / 3 ¼ - 3½" diameter.
They weigh between 1.4kgs / 3lbs - 1.6kgs / 3.5lbs each.
Great for rustic, country kitchen and French provincial style interiors. They are utterly charming.
