Dating from the 1970's this platter has been majolica glazed in two-tone, golden caramel under warm ochre brown. This platter has been hand painted individually, so each 'shell' varies slightly from the others in colour and intensity. This platter is wonderfully tactile with 'ridges' reminiscent of oyster/scallop shells and a beautiful 'crab' in the centre. There cannot be a more stylish way to serve your seafood course at dinner parties.
Originally designed for serving 'Coquilles St. Jacques', (Scallops) or Huitres (Oysters) this platter has twelve 'Shell-Shaped' wells around a 'Crab' (lemon well) in the centre, where you stylishly serve your lemons ready for squeezing onto the Seafood. This Platter could be used to display and serve many other seafoods such as crab, mussels, langoustine or gambas as a table centrepiece for a dinner party or banquet.
The Platter weighs 1.8kg (4 lbs) and measures 38cms/15" diameter. It has the 'Atelier du Revernay. France' mark on the underside.
It is in perfect condition, with no chips, scratches or cracks. There is some very, very slight 'hairline crackling' to the glaze on the underside, consistent with the age of the platter which does not in any way detract from the beauty or quality of this piece.
A really rare 'find' indeed and simply beautiful..............
