This fabulous French 'Cornichons' jar is a gorgeous accent piece for a French country kitchen / provincial farmhouse. Excellent for storing kitchen utensils or as a planter for herbs. Antique white in color, it has the word 'Cornichons' (pickles) in relief across the front and comes complete with its wooden lid, that has a 'crescent hole' through which to store the tongs or spoon. The lid is a loose fit. Please ask us, if you would like a set of tongs included.
Used in traditional French farmhouse kitchens to store and serve Cornichons (mini Gherkin cucumbers, one to two inches in length and harvested before reaching full maturity for an extra-tart bite.) Cornichons will be eaten with home-made terrines, cheese, pâté, bread or cured meats.
It stands 21cms/ 8 ¼" tall, including the lid and is 18cms/ 7" wide, to the handles.
It weighs 1.1 kgs/ 2.4 lbs.
It is in great, vintage condition with no chips or cracks. It has the beginnings of 'hairline crackle' to the glaze, consistant with its age, which adds to its authenticity and charm. It has many years of service yet to offer. There is a small 'nick' in the foot edge of the base. (see last photo.)
Stylish in it's simplicity. It will look fabulous displayed alongside your other condiments at the table and add a real 'country farmhouse' feel when serving your lunches and picnics.
