This, French, butcher's meat cleaver/ chopper is made from steel with a wooden handle, probably dating back to the 1940's/50's. A rustic, farmhouse kitchen essential, it is utterly charming and the perfect accessory for a rural, country, kitchen setting. It would also make an excellent chef's gift.
The handle has a steel ferrule, which strengthens the end of a handle and is solid wood.
The blade has a wonderful 'patina' and has been flattened out slightly on the top edge where it has been hit to penetrate bone!
There is a 'punched' hole at the top of the blade for hanging.
The blade is still remarkably sharp (although it should be sharpened before use) and has many years of life left in it.
Length - 28cms/ 11"
Blade width at widest - 9.5cms/ 3¾"
Weight - 400gms/ 14ozs.
It is in excellent condition. The handle has a slight split, consistent with its age and use, but this in no way effects its functionality.
