This is a fabulous antique, early 1900's, French confit pot. It is a gorgeous accent piece for a period kitchen / rustic farmhouse. Excellent for storing kitchen utensils or as a planter for herbs.
It is handmade and therefore has a charming, slightly uneven, surface texture and rough glaze style. The shape is elegant, and unusual, for a confit pot of this age, the handles on this pot are fabulously wavy!
This pot is in great condition for its 100 year age. It has no chips or cracks. It has a small glazing graze (see last photo) in the rim, but nothing to detract from it's beauty. It is still perfectly watertight. It is utterly charming, with it's 'dints' and undulations in the glaze. The inside of the pot is stained and has 'hairline crackle', consistent with its age and use. A truly rustic treasure 'aged to perfection', authentic and original. It has many years of service yet to offer.
Its natural terracotta color makes it the perfect accessory for French provincial interiors.
It weighs 700gms/ 1.5 lbs. It stands 13.5cms / 5¼" tall, is 10cms / 4" diameter (at the base), 18cms/ 7" wide to the handle. The opening is 11cms / 4¼".
