These five antique, French, stoneware jars look fabulous when displayed together. Classic ‘Jeanne d’Arc’ Nordic/French country style jars for a fresh, simple, Scandinavian look.
These five lidded jars, are antique white in colour and have the the famous 'Grèspots Digoin, France' mark stamped into the undersides.
The factory des Grès et Poteries de Digoin was founded in 1875, along the central canal in Burgundy. The stoneware clay is prepared entirely inside the manufacture’s workshops, made of natural mineral materials from France (Burgundy, Auvergne, Charente and Île-de-France).
The jars each stand 8cms/ 3¼" tall, including the lid, are 6cms/ 2¼" diameter, 8cms/ 3¼" wide to the handles. The lids are a loose fit, all slightly different from each other, varying slightly in size. They are in fabulous condition, the imperfections, unevenness and wear to the glazes make them all the more alluring. The bases are un-glazed and are therefore slightly rough to the touch, utterly charming, they are 'aged to perfection'. They have no chips, just a few marks and grazes, consistent with their age, but nothing at all to detract from their beauty or functionality. They are all authentic and original.
The words read: Laurier (Bay Leaves), Thym (Thyme), Curry, Epices (Spices) and Poivre (Pepper.)
They weigh 1.2kgs/ 2.6 lbs altogether.
