This is a stunning set of five vintage French books in faded creamy white tones. They are 'aged to perfection' and will give you an instant 'old library' effect. There are works here by some of France's most famous writers, such as philosopher Jean Paul Sartre and novelist, essayist Jean Giraudoux to give your bookshelves added French chic!

They look lovely tied up with twine and displayed on a coffee table, sideboard, mantelpiece, bedside table or dresser. The covers have faded with time to subtle, dusky, soft shades and the pages are yellowed with age, with age spots. They make excellent film and photo props and would be ideal for a boho, or shabby chic, themed wedding as a table centerpiece decoration.

The five books are all paperback editions, distressed from years of genuine use, and some of the pages are delicate and loose:

The titles are:

Etudes de Textes Français - Roland Derche (1959 edition.) Studies of French literature through the works of Diderot, Baudelaire, Rabelais and Montaigne to name but a few!

L'Existentialisme est un humainisme - Jean Paul Sartre (1968 edition.) Existentialism Is a Humanism is Sartre's famous 1946 work. This work, once influential and a popular starting-point in discussions of Existentialist thought, has been widely criticized by philosophers, including Sartre himself, who later rejected some of the views he expressed in it.

Les Cinq Tentations de La Fontaine - Jean Giraudoux (1949 edition.) Jean Giraudoux (29 October 1882 – 31 January 1944) was a French novelist, essayist, diplomat and playwright. He is considered among the most important French dramatists of the period between World War I and World War II. His work is noted for its stylistic elegance and poetic fantasy. 'The Five Temptations of La Fontaine' is a printed version of five lectures, given in 1938, from the stage of the Comedie Francaise, they have assumed their rightful rank as the most brilliant (and the most accurate) analysis of the fables, poems, and erotic tales of La Fontaine (the brilliant 17th century French author whose works are universally known and admired in the French-speaking world.)

L'Iliade d'Homer, étude et analyse - Aimé Puech (1948 edition.) This is a study guide that analyses 'The Iliad' by Homer. The Iliad is one of the two great epics of Homer, and is typically described as one of the greatest war stories of all time, but to say the Iliad is a war story does not begin to describe the emotional sweep of its action and characters: Achilles, Helen, Hector, and other heroes of Greek myth and history in the tenth and final year of the Greek siege of Troy.

Histoire de la Littérature Françasie, de 1789 à nos jours - Albert Thibaudet (1947 edition.) A wonderful book that studies works by all the famous French authors from 1789 onwards, such as LaMartine, Alfred de Vigny, Victor Hugo, Balzac, Alfred de Musset, Flaubert, and Baudelaire and many more!

To display them altogether you will need a minimum space of 14.5cms/ 5¾" high x 19cms/ 7½" long x 12cms/ 4¾" deep.
They weigh 1.5kgs/ 3.3lbs.
