This is a very rare French 'Moulin des Loups' tea set with 'gold' trim and a delicate 'Poppies and Anemones' motif, named 'Beaulieu'.
If you are decorating a country cottage dresser or love the idea of recreating a 'traditional afternoon cream tea' for a summer garden party then this set is for you. Such a pretty way to serve coffee and tea, alongside your scones with jam and cream or slices of Victoria sponge.
Ideal for 'shabby chic tea parties', it will look pretty with old roses and other vintage prints.
It is rare to find a complete set, with both the milk jug and sugar bowl with lid included, and this set is in near perfect condition. There are twelve cups and saucers with this set.
Each piece has the 'MOULIN DES LOUPS 'ORCHIES' NORD' France (Mill of wolves in English) mark on the underside.
The twelve cups measure 8.5cms/3¼" diameter x 5cms /2" deep with twelve matching saucers measuring 15cms/5" diameter.
The milk jug/creamer stands 9cms/3½" tall x 15.5cms/6" diameter (including the spout and handle)
The sugar bowl stands 14cms/5½" tall '(to the lid) x 19cms/7½" diameter to the handles.
The teapot stands 22cms tall/8½" tall (to the lid) x 27cms/10½" diameter (including the handle and spout)
Altogether this set weighs 3.7kgs/8lbs.
The MOULIN DES LOUPS 'ORCHIES' France porcelain mark was used when the famous Orchies and Hamage factories merged and became Moulin des Loups & Hamage, whose mark comprised a windmill and the name ORCHIES in capitals, (as shown on the bottom of this set) from the 1920's to the 1970's.
There are no visible, chips or cracks. One cup has a microscopic 'nick' in the rim.
There is some slight discoloration at the base of two of the cups, which cannot be seen when in use, and does not detract in any way from the beauty or functionality of this gorgeous set. There is the slightest beginning of 'hairline' crackle to the glazes, but this is to be expected with the age of the set and simply adds to its charm and authenticity.
