This is a stunning set of five antique French books in faded red tones. They are 'aged to perfection' and will give you an instant 'old library' effect.
If you love shabby chic books then these are for you. They look lovely tied up with natural twine and displayed on a coffee table, mantelpiece, sideboard, bedside table or dresser. The covers have faded with time to subtle, dusky, soft tones and the pages are yellowed with age, with age spots.
This red book bundle is made up of five French, antiquarian school books, very collectible and increasingly hard to find.
They are in genuine antique condition, as you can see from the photos. These books have, over their long life, gathered names inside the front covers, pencilled scholarly notes, remarks and comments, on the pages, over the years. Most importantly they have that 'old book smell' reminiscent of libraries and bookshops from a by-gone era - fabulously comforting.
The five books are all hard cover editions, they are distressed from years of genuine use and some of the pages are delicate and loose:
The titles are:
D' Histoire Grecque. V. Duruy (1864 edition.) This 157 year old book on the history and geography of Greece, is designed for children aged 12+. It has wonderful old maps of the ancient city states of Sparta, Thebes and Athens. It has chapters on the Trojan wars, the Peloponnesian war and the reigns of Pericles, Philip and Alexander the Great to name but a few!
Le Français par les Txtes, lecture expliquée. Cours moyen - V. Bouillot (1921 edition.) This 100 year old book is packed full of vocabulary, sentence construction and verb conjugations.
Cours de Langue Française, cours moyen et supérieur. C.H Maquet, Léon Flot et L. Roy (1929 edition.) Published by France's famous Parisian publisher 'Librarie Hachette.' This book has grammar and vocabulary exercises along with verb conjugations, sentence constructions and elocution exercises.
Lecture Pratiques, cours élémentaires et moyen. G. Jost et V. Humbert (1906 edition.) This 115 year old book for 7 - 11 year old, studies the French language through short stories and passages of text, with accompanying vocabulary tables at the back.

Somehow taking it our doesn't feel right, as it is part of this books history, so I have left it there for you. A fascinating treasure!
