It would look fabulous when displayed alongside other stoneware items in a farmhouse kitchen and would make an interesting gift for anyone who brews their own beer or wine.
The porcelain stopper on this bottle has the words 'Biére d'Angoulême' glazed into the top, as this was once a beer bottle, but nowadays this would be ideal for lemonade or other drinks too, as the stopper forms a tight seal and is still working perfectly.
You could also use it as a hot water bottle or stylish thermos!
Considering its age it is in great condition, the metal clasp is rusty, and the rubber of the stopper is starting to show signs of degradation, but this simply adds to the authenticity and charm of the bottle and in fact, along with the odd 'dint' out of the porcelain stopper gives it an 'aged to perfection' feel.
The bottle itself is undamaged, with no chips or cracks and is glazed in a gorgeous shiny rich brown. It is very tactile with the outside of the bottle having a textured quality from the 'speckled' air bubbles formed during the glazing process.
It stands 30cms (11¾") tall and is 9cms (3½") diameter. It is quite heavy weighing 1.2kgs (2.6lbs)!
Great for rustic, country kitchen and French provincial style interiors. It is utterly charming.
