This is a stunning set of five antiquarian French books in faded brown tones. Four of them date from the 1700's & 1800's, they are "aged to perfection" and will give you an instant "old library" effect. There are works here by some of France's most famous writers, such as Pierre Corneille and Sully Prudhomme to give your bookshelves added French chic!

The five books are all hardcover editions, distressed from years of genuine use, and some of the pages are delicate and loose:

The titles are:

Oeuvre de Sully Prudhomme, Poésies 1872-1878 (1882 edition.) René François Armand (Sully) Prudhomme (16 March 1839 – 6 September 1907) was a French poet and essayist. He was the first winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1901. This 140-year-old book contains his works 1872: Les Destins, 1874: La Révolte des Fleurs, 1874: La France, 1875: Les Vaines Tendresses, 1876: Le Zénith and 1878: La Justice.

Les Chef-D'Oeuvres Dramatiques, Messieur Corneille, Tome troisième (1760 edition.) Just one peek inside the cover of this book tells you, its age. The typeface and print ooze style and authenticity. For its 262 years it is in remarkable condition, perfectly intact, delicately scuffed. Not only does it look fantastic, but it contains some of the most famous plays ever written by Corneille. Pierre Corneille (6 June 1606 – 1 October 1684) was a French tragedian. He is generally considered one of the three great seventeenth-century French dramatists, along with Molière and Racine. This book contains some of his most famous works, such as Le Baron d'Albikrac, Le Festin de Pierre, La Comtesse d'Orgueil and Le Menteur.

Deux Amours (1877 edition.) Jules Maurie (March 20, 1851 – July 27, 1922) was a French novelist. This book is 145-years-old.

L'homme d'Oraison, ses lectures spirituelles, tome quatrième. P. Jacques Nouet (1838 edition.) "The Man of Prayer" is a book of spiritual readings, from 184-years-ago!

Brune, François de Roux (1938 edition.) François de Roux (7 March 1897 – 17 July 1954) was a French writer, winner of the 1935 Prix Renaudot.

These five antique books have, over their long life, gathered pencilled scholarly notes, remarks and comments, on the pages, over the years. I've left them exactly as I found them because they're authentic. Most importantly they have that "old book smell" reminiscent of libraries and bookshops from a by-gone era - fabulously comforting.
