This is a stunning set of five vintage French books in faded creamy beige/light orange/ochre/gold tones. They are "aged to perfection" and will give you an instant "old library" effect and your bookshelves added French chic!

The perfect original gift for booklovers the world over. They look lovely tied up with twine and displayed on a coffee table, sideboard, mantelpiece, bedside table or dresser. The covers have faded with time to subtle, dusky, soft shades and the pages are yellowed with age, with age spots. They make excellent film and photo props and would be ideal for a boho, or shabby chic, themed wedding as a table centerpiece decoration.

The five books are all hardcover editions, distressed from years of genuine use, and some of the pages are delicate and loose:

The titles are:

Anthologie des Poètes du XIXe Siècle, E. Maynial (1935 edition.) A selection of 19th Century poets and their work. All of France's most famous writers of the time are featured in this book, Alfred de Musset, Victor Hugo, Lamartine, Alfred de Vigny, Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine and Paul Claudel to name but a few!

Pages Choisis des Grands Ecrivains, J. J. Rousseau (1901 edition.) Jean-Jacques Rousseau (28 June 1712 – 2 July 1778) was a Genevan philosopher, writer and composer. His political philosophy influenced the progress of the Enlightenment throughout Europe, as well as aspects of the French Revolution and the development of modern political, economic and educational thought. This book has a biography alongside selected writings, studies of his letters and thoughts on religion, politics, education and society.

La Pratique des Essais Commerciaux et Industriels, Matières Organiques. Georges Halphen et Victor Arnould (1904 edition.) This is an amazing industrial encyclopaedia for the natural food industry. Amazing illustrations and diagrams of chemical processes and equipment and materials necessary for the fermentation, sterilisation, and separation of ingredients and chemical structures. There are tables and charts on alcohol fermentation and brewing. Chapters on the chemical structure of grains, flour and potatoes. Sugar and its various forms, molasses, honey, glucose. Wines, spirits, malts and vinegers. Dairy products and fats. There is also a huge section on soap and resins, dyes and studies of textiles and fibres under the microscope. A truly fascinating and informative book for its 118-year age!

Stello, Les Consultations du Docteur-Noir, Alfred de Vigny (c.1910-1920 edition.) Alfred Victor, Comte de Vigny (27 March 1797 – 17 September 1863) was a French poet and early leader of French Romanticism. This book "Stello" is one of his most famous works, in it Vigny puts together a series of consultations, or dialogues, between two symbolic figures: Doctor Noir (the Black Doctor), who represents Vigny’s own intellect; and Stello, who represents the poet’s desire for an active part in the public arena. In seeking to preserve Stello from the dangers of his imprudent enthusiasm, Doctor Noir tells him three anecdotes. In these three short stories Vigny examines the poet in his dealings with political authority.

Précis de Physiologie, E. Hédon (1914 edition.) A huge tome of medical knowledge of the human body, from the very early 1900's. This guide to physiology gives a fascinating insight into the knowledge and medical practices, from 110 years ago. It's all here, everything from the workings of our circulatory and respiratory and nervous systems, to nutrician, digestion and the study of our senses.
