Pornic is a commune in South-Eastern Brittany, in western France and "La Faïencerie" in Pornic produces an extremely wide range of earthenware. The pottery is a family enterprise founded in 1947 and specializes in hand painted ceramics, like this beautiful cheese platter.
Dating from the 1970's it measures 27cms (10½") diameter and has been designed in a light and delicate design, with a limited palette of deep green, ochre, violet and bordeaux red against an antique/vintage white background. You can 'feel' the delicacy with which the potter has applied the brushstrokes, individually, to form the fern leaves and flowers, it is entitled 'Printemps' (Spring).
It is in perfect condition, with no chips, scratches or cracks.
On the underside it is marked MBFA Pornic, Peint à la Main, "Printemps" (Manufacture Bretonne de Faïences Artistiques (M.B.F.A.) of Pornic, hand painted, "Spring")
The handle has an authentic patina, consistent with the age of the metal.
The perfect gift for cheese lovers. Why not give this plate as a gift to your dinner host/hostess along with some French cheeses and a bottle of Bordeaux wine..........Perfection!................
