An absolutely stunning table centerpiece.
The perfect gift for cheese lovers. Why not give this platter as a gift to your dinner host/hostess along with some French cheeses and a bottle of Bordeaux wine..........Perfection!................
The 'creamy caramel' brown base glaze of this platter has been overlaid with gorgeous, bright 'fiery' orange leaves and 'ruby' red berries of the trailing vine design, that is slightly raised against the smooth background. The asymmetric shape of the ceramic and the way the motif is off-set to one side forms a wonderfully tactile and alluring surface.
It is clearly marked 'Poët Laval' (Pronounced Pwet!) on the underside. Poët Laval is a village in south eastern France, not far from Montelimar. It has long been involved in the production of pottery.
This ceramic cheese board has been hand-painted and dates from the late 1960's / early 1970's.
It measures 28cms/ 11" x 27cms/ 10½" (at it longest edges.) 15cms/ 6" tall to the top of the handle.
It is chunky weighing 1.5kgs/ 3.3lbs!
It is in excellent condition with no chips. There is 'hairline crackle' to the glaze, that is consistent with the age of the piece, and which in no way detracts from the beauty of this amazing piece of ceramic.
.........you just need to provide the red wine, a baguette and the cheese of course!.........Bon Appetit!..........
