This is a stunning French 'Moulin des Loups' wash bowl and jug set from the 1950's. It is a beautiful example of the wash basin and pitcher sets that were so popular at that time. It would look fabulous on any night wash stand or vanity unit, pretty and practical.
It's large and impressive size makes it a real 'eye-catcher' and it encapsulates the '1950's' look perfectly, with its bold design and color palette. The design runs all the way around the jug and bowl so it looks great from all angles.
Dating from the 1950's it has the 'MOULIN DES LOUPS 'ORCHIES' NORD' France (Mill of Wolves in English) mark on the underside. This porcelain mark was used when the famous Orchies and Hamage factories merged and became Moulin des Loups & Hamage, whose mark comprised a windmill and the name ORCHIES in capitals, (as shown on the bottom of this set) from the 1920's to the 1960's.
The jug stands 26cms/ 10¼" tall and is 24cms/ 9½" wide (including the spout and handle.)
The bowl measure 35cms/ 13¾" diameter x 11cms/ 4¼" deep.
Altogether it weighs 4.9kgs/ 10.8 lbs!
It is in amazing condition for its age. It has 'hairline' crackle to the glazes, which is to be expected with the age of this set, and in no way detracts from the functionality or beauty of the piece. There are no chips but it does have a graze at the edge, from the firing stage, where the stand was fitted (see third photo). This jug and bowl set is still perfectly watertight, it has many years of service yet to offer. Charming and authentic is has, quite simply, 'aged to perfection'!
