This is a stunning wash bowl and jug set from the 1930's. It is a beautiful example of the wash basin and pitcher sets that were so popular at that time. The perfect "French boudoir" accessory. It would look fabulous on any night wash stand or vanity unit, pretty and practical.
It's large and impressive size makes it a real 'eye-catcher' and encapsulates the 'vintage shabby chic' look perfectly, with its bold, mauve/pink anemones and olive green leaves, highlighted with 'gilt' stems and veins detailing. The bouquet is set against a creamy, antique white background. The floral design runs all the way around the jug and bowl so it looks great from all angles.
It would also look great on your French dresser filled with dried roses!........
It comes complete with the soap dish too!
The jug stands 27cms/ 10½" tall and is 25cms/ 9¾" wide (including the spout and handle.)
The bowl measure 34cms/ 13¼" diameter x 13cms/ 5¼" deep.
The soap dish measures 14.5cms/ 5¾" long x 10cms/ 4" wide x 2cms/ ¾" deep.
Altogether it weighs 4.6kgs/ 10lbs!
It is in amazing condition for its age. It has some discoloration and 'hairline' crackle to the glazes. There are no chips but there are cracks. This jug and bowl and still perfectly watertight, as none of the cracks effect the structural integrity or penetrate the porcelain. They do in fact add to the charm and authenticity of this beautiful set.
There is some slight 'wear' to the gilding in places, which is to be expected with the age of this set, and in no way detracts from the functionality or beauty of the piece.
It has, quite simply, 'aged to perfection'!
