A set of two highball glasses celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the French Revolution, from 1789 - 1989.
A great gift for lovers of French history and Francophiles.

The glasses have a gorgeous illustration of an open book "Les Droits de L'Homme"** (The Rights of Man) with the head of Marianne* on the left hand page, surrounded by the "Tricolore", French flag, with the words "Bicentenaire de la Revolution" in a banner across the bottom. There is a Phrygian hat (Liberty cap), worn to signify freedom and the pursuit of liberty during the revolution in the center.

In perfect condition they stand 15cms tall x 6cms diameter. Each weighs 200gms (7ozs.)

*Marianne has been the national personification of the French Republic since the French Revolution, as a symbol of liberty, equality, fraternity and reason, and a portrayal of the Goddess of Liberty.
**Rights of Man (1791), a book by Thomas Paine, including 31 articles, posits that popular political revolution is permissible when a government does not safeguard the natural rights of its people. Using these points as a base it defends the French Revolution against Edmund Burke's attack in Reflections on the Revolution in France (1790). Voilà...........
