Stack of Seven Antique, French Books. Printed 1925 - 1927.
This is a stunning set of seven antiquarian French books in faded cream/beige tones. Published between 1925 - 1927, they are almost 100 years old, and "aged to perfection"!
Their pages are fluffy and soft, time-worn and timeless.
All seven books are by Romain Rolland (29 January 1866 – 30 December 1944) a French dramatist, novelist, essayist, art historian and mystic who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1915 "as a tribute to the lofty idealism of his literary production and to the sympathy and love of truth with which he has described different types of human beings".
In this stack there are four novels from the "Jean-Christophe" (1904‒1912) series. Jean-Christophe is a novel in 10 volumes for which Romain Rolland received the Prix Femina in 1905 and the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1915.
L'Aube ("Dawn", 1904)
Le Matin ("Morning", 1904)
L'Adolescent ("Youth", 1904)
La Foire sur la place ("The Marketplace", 1908)
There are also three volumes; "L'été", and" Mere et Fills, Tomes I & II" from his seven volume series "L'âme enchantée" (1922–1933).
These seven books are all distressed from years of genuine use, but there are no loose or damaged pages.
This stack is 15.5cms/ 6" high, 19cms/ 7½" long x 13cms/ 5" deep.
It weighs 1.6kgs/ 3.5lbs.
