This is a stunning set of five vintage French books in faded creamy beige/light orange/tan tones. They are "aged to perfection" and will give you an instant "old library" effect and your bookshelves added French chic!
The perfect original gift for booklovers the world over. They look lovely tied up with twine and displayed on a coffee table, sideboard, mantelpiece, bedside table or dresser. The covers have faded with time to subtle, dusky, soft shades and the pages are yellowed with age, with age spots. They make excellent film and photo props and would be ideal for a boho, or shabby chic, themed wedding as a table centerpiece decoration.
The five books are all distressed from years of genuine use, and some of the pages are delicate and loose:
The titles are:
Histoire de la France, de 1789 à la fin du XIXè siècle. A. Ammann et E.-C. Coutant (Hardcover 1910 edition.) The history of France from the French revolution, through the Napoléonic Era the restoration of the monarchy and through the second and third republics. The cover binding on this book is loose, revealing the spine stitching, but it is complete and there are no loose pages.
Oeuvres Poétiques, Louis Veuillot (Paperback 1878 edition.) This amazing 144-year-old book is packed full of the poetry of Louis Veuillot (11 October 1813 – 7 March 1883) a French journalist and author who helped to popularize ultramontanism (a philosophy favoring Papal supremacy).
Bouvard et Pécuchet, Tomes I et II, Oeuvres Complétes de Gustave Flaubert (paperback 1945 editions.) Gustave Flaubert (12 December 1821 – 8 May 1880) was a French novelist. Highly influential, he has been considered the leading exponent of literary realism. Bouvard et Pécuchet is an unfinished satirical novel by Gustave Flaubert, published in 1881 after his death in 1880.
Oeuvres Completes de Voltaire Tome XXXVII, Mélanges Historiques, Tome III. (Hardcover 1825 edition) At almost 200 years old this book has personality! A mixture of historical references from Voltaire's letters, correspondence and articles written during his lifetime. Voltaire (21 November 1694 – 30 May 1778) was a French Enlightenment writer, historian, and philosopher famous for his wit. He wrote more than 20,000 letters and more than 2,000 books and pamphlets. This book has a leather spine and marbleised cardboard covers. The patina on this book is amazing.
