This set of six antique, French, Lunéville fish plates are perfect for shabby chic fine dining! They are very rare and collectible, their illustrations being unusual. Each plate has a different design, showing various pairs of freshwater fish swimming amongst water reeds. The details of the illustrations are incredibly accurate and realistic, the colors are muted and subtle, giving them a timeless, understated elegance.
Lunéville Faience is one of the most famous French pottery manufacturers. It has been located in Lunéville, Lorraine, France since 1730 and is very collectible. This Lunéville K & G (Keller et Guerin) mark dates from 1923 onwards.
The plates measure 23.5cms/ 9¼" diameter and each weighs 400 gms/ 14 ozs They all have a tactile, fluted, edge and wide border, with a 'gilt' line edge and delicate gold pattern.
They are all in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. As with all plates of this amazing age, they have some very, light 'wear' to the gilt trims and some very slight surface scratches to the motifs. They may also have the faintest beginnings of some 'hairline glaze crackle', which is to be fully expected with the age of this set, and does not in any way detract from the beauty or functionality of these fabulous plates. They have many years of service yet to offer.
What perfect presentation plates for the ones that didn't get away!.....................
