A rare and collectible set of five, French, salad plates. These plates are illustrated with five classic French salad leaves recipes.
Perfect as cheese plates too, the salad leaves illustrated are, "Scarole" (Escarole), "Mäche" (Lambs's Lettuce), "Reine des Glaces" (Queen of Ice), "Pissenlit" (Dandelion) and "Chicorée Frisée" (Curly Chicory.)
All in amazing condition, with no chips or cracks. Each plate measures 19.5cms/ 7½" diameter and weighs 300gms/ 10½ ozs.
They all have the 'L'Hirondelle, Porcelaine' (the 'Swallow' Porcelain manufacturer based in Mehun sur Yèvre, France) mark on the undersides.
The illustrations are wonderfully detailed, with the salads sitting stylishly in baskets on a traditional red and white striped/lined tea towel/table cloth, surrounded by garlic cloves, salt and pepper mills, onions and nuts.
There is a microscopic amount of "wear" to the words on one or two of the plates, barely detectable. It in no way detracts from the beauty or functionality of these unusual plates.
