This is a stunning set of six vintage French books in faded peach/orange/cream tones. They are "aged to perfection" and will give you an instant "old library" effect. There are works here by some of France's most famous writers, such as Théophile Gautier and Chateaubriand to give your bookshelves added French chic!
The perfect original gift for booklovers the world over. They look lovely tied up with twine and displayed on a coffee table, sideboard, mantelpiece, bedside table or dresser. The covers have faded with time to subtle, dusky, soft shades and the pages are yellowed with age, with age spots. They make excellent film and photo props and would be ideal for a boho, or shabby chic, themed wedding as a table centerpiece decoration.
The six books are all distressed from years of genuine use, and some of the pages are delicate and loose:
The titles are:
Les Grands Ecrivains Français, Chateaubriand. M. De Lescure (Paperback 1923 edition.) This book studies the life of François-René, Vicomte de Chateaubriand (1768–1848.) A French writer, politician, diplomat and historian who founded Romanticism in French literature.
Dix-Huitième Siècle et Romantisme, André Bellessort (Paperback 1941 edition.) A study of 18th century romantic literature.
Théophile Gautier, Choix de Poésies (Paperback 1929 edition.) A selection of poetry by Pierre Jules Théophile Gautier (30 August 1811 – 23 October 1872), a French poet, dramatist, novelist, journalist, and art and literary critic.
Auteurs Français, Dix-Huitième Siècle. F. Gendrot and F.-M. Eustache (Hardcover 1951 edition.) This book is packed full of famous French literary works from the 18th century writers. There are selected works by Voltaire, Montesquieu, Diderot, Buffon, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Beaumarchais to name but a few!
La Révolution Française, Pierre Gaxotte (Paperback 1928 edition.) A comprehensive guide to the history of the French Revolution.
Manuel de Philosophie, Tome II, Logique-Morale- Philosophie Générale. A. Cuvillier (Paperback 1950 edition.) This book has an error in page numbering and page formation at page 304, for several pages, and the previous owner has obviously sought to rectify this by removing several of the duplicate pages from the centre!
To display in a bundle, tied with twine, you will need a minimum space of 15cms/ 6" high x 22cms/ 8½" long x 14cms/ 5½" deep.
They weigh 2.3kgs/ 5 lbs.
