The dishes measure 13cms/ 5" diameter and are 4cms/ 1½" deep. They each weigh 200gms/ 7ozs, and stack neatly inside each other for ease of storage.
They have the words 'le Melon' (French for Melon) written to the top of a beautifully detailed illustration of a cut melon, with a glass of Pineau des Charentes to the side. "Melon with Pineau" is a French classic combination. Popular all Summer long as a starter course. A Charentais melon is a type of French cantaloupe, it is a small variety of melon, around the size of a softball. It has flesh similar to most cantaloupes, but with a distinct and more intense aroma, and a more pink hue. It originated in the Charentes region of France. Pineau des Charentes is a fortified wine from the Poitou-Charentes region, made from a blend of lightly fermented grape must and Cognac eau-de-vie. It is an apéritif.
Here is a recipe if you would like to try:
Ingredients: - Charentais melon - Rosé Pineau des Charentes
Method: Cut the melon in half along its "equator." Scoop out the seeds. Add 2 tbsp. of rosé Pineau des Charentes. Refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving. Serve the half melon, very cold, on a bed of crushed ice.
.........et voilà!...............
