This is a stunning set of six antique French books in faded "Inky/sea" green tones. They are "aged to perfection" and will give you an instant "old library" effect. There are works by two of France's most famous writers; Victor Hugo, Honoré de Balzac and Buffon to give your bookshelves added French Chic!

This "sea green" book bundle is made up of very collectible, and increasingly hard to find, books. They are in genuine vintage condition, as you can see from the photos. They have been held and read by many, many people who have "thumbed through" them, studied them, ear marked pages, loved, lost and cherished them and they have finally ended up here - looking for a new home and a new adventure. They have also gathered a few pencil marks and names inside the covers over the years. I've left them exactly as I found them because they're authentic.

Most importantly they have that "old book smell" reminiscent of libraries and bookshops from a by-gone era - fabulously comforting.

The six books are all distressed from years of genuine use and some of the pages are delicate and loose.

The titles are:

Paradis Perdu, Livres I et II, John Milton (hardcover 1866 edition.) This 156 year old book contains volumes one and two of Paradise Lost the epic poem in blank verse by the 17th-century English poet John Milton. The poem concerns the biblical story of the Fall of Man: the temptation of Adam and Eve by the fallen angel Satan and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden.

Morceaux Choisis Buffon (Hardcover 1879 edition.) Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (7 September 1707 – 16 April 1788) was a French naturalist, mathematician, cosmologist, and encyclopédiste. His works influenced the next two generations of naturalists, including two prominent French scientists Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and Georges Cuvier. This book has a selection of his works.

Le Cousin Pons, Honoré de Balzac (Hardcover 1933 edition.) Honoré de Balzac (20 May 1799 – 18 August 1850) was a French novelist and playwright. The novel sequence La Comédie humaine, which presents a panorama of post-Napoleonic French life, is generally viewed as his magnum opus. Le Cousin Pons is one of the last of the 94 novels and short stories that make up La Comédie Humaine.

La Confession d'Un Enfant du Siècle, Alfred de Musset (Paperback early 1900's edition.) Alfred Louis Charles de Musset-Pathay (11 December 1810 – 2 May 1857) was a French dramatist, poet, and novelist. He was the librarian of the French Ministry of the Interior under the July Monarchy. The tale of his celebrated love affair with George Sand, which lasted from 1833 to 1835, is told from his point of view in this autobiographical novel; "The Confession of a Child of the Century."

Han d'Islande, Victor Hugo (Hardcover 1941 edition.) Victor Hugo (26 February 1802 – 22 May 1885) was a French poet, novelist, and dramatist of the Romantic movement. Victor Hugo is considered to be one of the greatest and best-known French writers. "Hans of Iceland" is his 1823 novel.

Les Auteurs Latins, Tacite (Hardcover 1887 edition.) This 135 year old book is in Latin with translations, notes and commentaries in French. Roman historian and senator Tacitus was writing in the era of the Roman Empire from the reign of Tiberius to that of Nero, the years AD 14–68. His works are an important source for modern understanding of the history of the Roman Empire during the 1st century AD.
