This is a stunning set of five antique French books in faded 'inky' green tones. They are 'aged to perfection' and will give you an instant 'old library' effect. There are works by some of France's most famous writers; Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas Fils to give your bookshelves added French Chic!

This 'Inky green' book bundle is made up of very collectible and increasingly hard to find books. They are in genuine vintage condition, as you can see from the photos. They have been held and read by many, many people who have 'thumbed through' them, studied them, ear marked pages, loved, lost and cherished them and they have finally ended up here - looking for a new home and a new adventure. They have also gathered a few pencil marks and names inside the covers over the years. I've left them exactly as I found them because they're authentic.

Most importantly they have that 'old book smell' reminiscent of libraries and bookshops from a by-gone era - fabulously comforting.

The five books are all hard cover editions, they are distressed from years of genuine use and some of the pages are delicate and loose.

The titles are:

Enoch Arden, Tennyson. (1929 edition.) This is a copy of Enoch Arden, a narrative poem, first published in 1864 by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, during his tenure as England's poet laureate.

Notre-Dame de Paris, Victor Hugo (c. 1920 edition.) "The Hunchback of Notre-Dame" is Victor Hugo's famous French Gothic first published in 1831.

Fables, Phèdre (1896 edition.) This 125 year old book contains the fables of Gaius Julius Phaedrus, a 1st-century Roman fabulist , who was the first versifier of a collection of Aesop's fables into Latin. This book has the original Latin and Greek texts with translations, notes and commentaries in French.

La Dame aux Camélias, Alexandre Dumas Fils (1860 edition.) This 161 year old book is stunning. "La Dame aux Camélias" (literally "The Lady with the Camellias", commonly known in English as "Camille") is a novel by Alexandre Dumas fils, first published in 1848 and subsequently adapted by Dumas for the stage. La Dame aux Camélias premiered at the Théâtre du Vaudeville in Paris, France on February 2, 1852. The play was an instant success, and Giuseppe Verdi immediately set about putting the story to music. His work became the 1853 opera "La Traviata", with the female protagonist, Marguerite Gautier, renamed Violetta Valéry.

Histoire Contemporaine, Cours d'Histoire de Pirolet et Bernard (c. 1906 edition.) This book covers contemporary history from 1815 to the early 1900's. It has lots of scholarly notes and old newspaper cuttings, used as page markers, tucked inside the pages. A lovely book that has clearly been well studied and is full of character.

To display them altogether, in a bundle, you will need a minimum space of 11cms/ 4¼" high x 19cms/ 7½" long x 14cms/ 5½" deep.
They weigh 1.6kgs/ 3.5lbs.
