This is an absolutely charming dish, made in Brittany, France, by the BCI (Bretagne Céramique Industrie) from the 1980's. It is from a collection designed around fishing/rowing boats from various European countries, this one is typical of one you would find on the French Brittany coast.
It was originally made to be used as oven to table cookware but I've styled it as a bathroom soap dish, as it would make a great accessory in a nautical bathroom/washroom setting. An unusual gift for anyone who loves 'sea themed' interior décor. Perfect for beach huts and holiday homes by the sea.
Glazed white on the inside and blue on the outside, it is beautifully detailed in the shape of a little French 'Bretagne' coast fishing boat, rounded at the each end and rising gently to the point at the front, with ridges reminiscent of boat timbers.
It measures 24cms/9½" long x 11.5cms/4½" wide x 5.5cms/2¼" deep and weighs 400gms/14ozs. In perfect condition, with no chips, scratches or cracks. It is clearly marked 'BCI, Du Océan, Bretagne' on the base, and numbered '04.10.038', as these were limited edition ceramics.
