French, Antique, Tabletop Fruit/Juice Press. Primitive Kitchen Cheese Press.
An antique, French, fruit press dating from the 1920s. An all-round multi-purpose press it would have been used to press fruit for juice/pulp and to make cheese, press curds, press meat, to extract juice for broth/stock. Also, for walnuts too, for oil.
This tabletop press is the perfect rustic farmhouse kitchen accent.
In amazing condition, it works perfectly. The screw mechanism is in perfect condition. It sits solidly on its wooden base plate.
The bowl with drain funnel would have originally been ceramic, now long-gone, it has been replaced by a heavy, stainless steel bowl and lid, fashioned to fit, where the original ceramic bowl would once have sat. The person who made the bowl, soldered a spout, to the original specifications so that it is perfectly watertight and works exactly as intended, so it has lost none of its original functionality.
It still has many, many years of service yet to offer.
The press, with screw, stands 39cms/ 15¼" tall (when the screw is extended to its full height), 31cms/ 12¼" (when the screw is down).
The wooden base plate is 23cms/ 9" long x 18cms/7" wide.
The bowl and disc lid are 10cms/ 4" diameter, the bowl is 8cms/ 3¼" tall.
It is very heavy, weighing 4.6kgs/ 10.1 lbs!
Increasingly popular in a world where we want to move away from disposable into sustainable, it is the idea gift for chefs who love traditional food preparation methods.
