This is a vintage, French, specialist chestnut roasting pan and fire pit grill rack set. Comes complete with a vintage, hand-forged, ornate wall plate with two hanging hooks, ready to mount on any wall. Great for displaying in an outdoor BBQ area or on a terrace/patio wall.
The metal grill rack is hand-forged iron with an ornate handle and is easily transportable, you can use it on any open fire, anywhere. It's feet allow it to sit safely above the flames and provide a stable base for the pan. Perfect for campfire cooking!
It is big measuring 82cms/ 32¼" long, the rectangular grill plate is 30cms/ 11¾" x 40cms/ 15¾". It weighs 2kgs/ 4.4lbs
The hand-forged iron hook plate is 42cms/ 16½" long x 30cms/ 11¾" wide. Medieval in style with "curled" and "curved" detailing. It has two holes ready for hanging on the back plate. It weighs 2.1kgs/ 4.6lbs.
The pan designed with a long handle (25cms/ 9¾") so you don't get too close to the fire , measures 26cms/ 10¼" diameter x 5cms/ 2" deep. It weighs 600gms/ 1.3 lbs. This invaluable chestnut roasting tool is a pan with holes on the bottom. Designed to perfectly roast chestnuts outdoors or indoors on an open fire in the hearth.
Together the pan and grill rack hang side by side on the custom made hook plate. Stylish in it's simplicity.
All three items have genuine authentic patina, some signs of rust and surface scratches, consistent with use, which adds to the rustic charm of the pieces. All perfectly functional, they have many, many happy hours of roasting still to come.

If you would like to try roasting chestnuts here's how to do it:
Rinse chestnuts in a colander, and then transfer them to a towel and pat dry.
Use a sharp knife to cut an X on the flat-side of each chestnut (this allows steam to escape as the chestnut roasts so it doesn't explode).
Place chestnuts in the pan.
Place pan over the fire but not in the fire and cook, shaking the pan occasionally, until all sides of the nuts are roasted. Chestnuts will be fragrant, browned and starting to pop open where you scored them with a knife.
Carefully pull a chestnut out of the pan and pierce it with a knife. If it is tender, the nuts are done.
Transfer chestnuts to a towel and let sit until cool enough to handle. While the nuts are still warm, use your fingers to peel off the outer shell.
