This is a stunning set of seven antique French books in faded blue tones. They are 'aged to perfection' and will give you an instant 'old library' effect and give your bookshelves added French chic!

They look lovely tied up with twine and displayed on a coffee table, sideboard, mantelpiece, bedside table or dresser. The covers have faded with time to subtle, dusky/inky, blues/greens and the pages are yellowed with age, with age spots.

This book bundle is made up of French, antiquarian school books, very collectible and increasingly hard to find. They are in genuine vintage condition, as you can see from the photos. They have been held and read by many, many people who have 'thumbed through' them, studied them, ear marked pages, loved, lost and cherished them and they have finally ended up here - looking for a new home and a new adventure. They have also gathered a few pencil marks and names inside the covers over the years. I've left them exactly as I found them because they're authentic.

Most importantly they have that 'old book smell' reminiscent of libraries and bookshops from a by-gone era - fabulously comforting.

The seven books are all hard cover editions, they are distressed from years of genuine use and some of the pages are delicate and loose:

The titles are:

Extraits en Prose, Voltaire (1913 edition.) Voltaire (21 November 1694 – 30 May 1778) was a French Enlightenment writer, historian, and philosopher famous for his wit. He was a critic of Christianity, especially the Roman Catholic Church. He advocated freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and separation of church and state. A versatile and prolific writer, producing works in almost every literary form.

La Première Année d'Instruction Morale et d'Instruction Civique, Pierre Laloi (1914 edition.) The moral and civil code of France. How to behave in family and society for school children. Everything you need to know to become a good French citizen!

La Tour de la France, par Deux Enfants, Devoir et Patrie. G. Bruno (c.1882 edition.) This is a famous French novel/geography/travel/school book. It was written by Augustine Fouillée (née Tuillerie) who used the pseudonym of G. Bruno. She was the wife of Alfred Jules Émile Fouillée. The book was widely used in the schools of the Third Republic, where it was influential for generations of children in creating a sense of a unified nation of France. Its success was such that it reached a circulation of 6 million copies in 1900. It was still used in schools until the 1950s.

Deuxièmes Leçons de Langue Française, Cours Moyen at Supérieur, CH. Pierre (1903 edition.) Lessons and exercises in the French language. Studies of verb conjugations, grammar, composition, literature, poetry, prose and everything in between!

Grands Coeurs, ED. De Amicis (1930 edition.) A reading book for school children.

Notre Littérature Etudiée Dans Les Textes, Tome I, Des Origines à La Fin Du XVIIe Siècle. Marcel Braunschvig (1937 edition.) This is an enormous book, packed full of famous French literary works up until the end of the 17th century. There are selected works by all of Frances most famous writers, La Fontaine, Boileau, Descartes, Racine, Voltaire, Molière and Corneille to name but a few!

Leçons et Devoirs d'Arithmétique, Cours Moyen,V. Brouet et F. et A. Haudricourt (1923 edition.) This book is packed full of fabulous old diagrams and illustrations of angles, prisms, sphere and cones. It has tables of weights and measures alongside mathematical equations and fractions.

If you wish to display the books in a bundle/stack with string then you would need a minimum space of 16cms/ 6¼" high x 20cms/ 7¾" long x 14cms/ 5½" deep.
They weigh 2.4kgs/ 5.3 lbs altogether.
