There is a very collectible travel guide in this stack, with a myriad of "pull out" detailed maps of the Savoie region of France, alongside some classic literature by Voltaire and Montaigne to give your bookshelves added "French chic"!
The five books are all hard cover editions, they are distressed from years of genuine use and some of the pages are delicate and loose.

Michel de Montaigne, Lord of Montaigne (28 February 1533 – 13 September 1592) was one of the most significant philosophers of the French Renaissance, known for popularizing the essay as a literary genre. His 'Essays' are some of the most influential ever written!

A comprehensive guide to the history of Europe and France from the end of the 13th century to the early 17th century. It has chapters on the 100 years war, the end fo the Greek empire and beginning of the Ottoman empire, great maritime discoveries and explorations under Magellan and Christopher Columbus to the Renaissance era, with the art and writings of Rabelais, Ronsard and Montaigne. An informative read!
Siècle de Louis XIV par Voltaire, M. Gregoire (1891 edition.) This 131 year old book is a study of the era of King Louis XIV through the writings and letters of Voltaire. Voltaire (21 November 1694 – 30 May 1778) was a French Enlightenment writer, historian, and philosopher famous for his wit. He was a critic of Christianity, especially the Roman Catholic Church. He advocated freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and separation of church and state. A versatile and prolific writer, producing works in almost every literary form. This includes plays, poems, novels, essays and historical and scientific works. He wrote more than 20,000 letters and more than 2,000 books and pamphlets. He was an outspoken advocate of civil liberties, despite the risk this placed him in under the strict censorship laws of the time. As a satirical polemicist, he frequently made use of his works to criticize intolerance, religious dogma and the French institutions of his day.
