This is a stunning set of five antique French books in faded red tones. They are 'aged to perfection' and will give you an instant 'old library' effect. There are works here by some of France's most famous writers, such as Jules Verne, Boileau, Corneille and Guy de Maupassant to give your bookshelves added French Chic!

If you love shabby chic books then these are for you. They look lovely tied up with natural twine and displayed on a coffee table, mantelpiece, sideboard, bedside table or dresser. The covers have faded with time to subtle, dusky, soft tones and the pages are yellowed with age, with age spots.

This 'red' book bundle is made up of five French, antiquarian books, very collectible and increasingly hard to find.
They are in genuine vintage condition, as you can see from the photos. They have been held and read by many, many people who have 'thumbed through' them, studied them, ear marked pages, loved, lost and cherished them and they have finally ended up here - looking for a new home and a new adventure. They have also gathered a few pencil marks and names inside the covers over the years. I've left them exactly as I found them because they're authentic.

Most importantly they have that 'old book smell' reminiscent of libraries and bookshops from a by-gone era - fabulously comforting.

The five books are all hard cover editions, they are distressed from years of genuine use and some of the pages are delicate and loose:

The titles are:

Les Naufragés de l'Air, L'Isle Mystérieuse, premier partie - Jules Verne (1923 edition.) Jules Gabriel Verne (8 February 1828 – 24 March 1905) was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. The Mysterious Island is one of his novels, first published in 1874. The original edition, published by Hetzel, contains a number of illustrations by Jules Férat. This book, published by France's famous 'Librarie Hachette' also contains these illustrations as it is part of their 'Hetzel Collection'

Boileau, Oeuvres Classiques - CH.-M. Des Granges (1928 edition.) Nicolas Boileau-Despréaux (1 November 1636 – 13 March 1711), often known simply as Boileau, was a French poet and critic. This book contains all his works and chronicles his life. It has the most beautiful pages that are copies of his original book covers from the 1600's.

Corneille, Théatre Choisi - S. Rocheblave et CH.-M. Des Granges (1926 edition.) Pierre Corneille (6 June 1606 – 1 October 1684) was a French tragedian. He is generally considered one of the three great seventeenth-century French dramatists, along with Molière and Racine. This book chronicles his life and contains many of his most famous works, such as Le Cid, Horace, Cinna, Polyeucte and Nicoméde to name but a few!

Histoire d'Angleterre - André Maurois ( 1937 edition.) This book has a lovely marbleized cover and studies the history of England, from the Celts through the French Monarchs, 100 Years War, Tudors, Stuarts and all the way to the Great War.

Guy de Maupassant - L'Inutile Beauté (1890 edition.) This book is 129 years old!
Henri René Albert Guy de Maupassant (5 August 1850 – 6 July 1893) was a 19th-century French author, known as a master of the short story. He depicted human lives, destinies and social forces in disillusioned and often pessimistic terms. Maupassant was a protégé of Gustave Flaubert. 'Useless Beauty' is one of Guy de Maupassant's most famous works.

If you would like to display the books in a bundle, tied up with the twine (like the photos), then you would need a minimum space of 16cms/ 6¼" high x 19cms/ 7½" long x 13cms/ 5" deep.
They weigh 2.7kgs/ 6lbs.

The more book bundles I compile the more difficult it gets to part with them as each set is so steeped in history and life that they 'feel' alive to me.

Thank you for looking and I hope you enjoy seeing these books as much as I have enjoyed finding them.
