A rare and collectible Antique Copper Kettle. This kettle is between 140-150 years old!
It was made in Birmingham by the well known firm of William Soutter & Sons and dates from around the 1870s / 1880s. It is stamped on the base with their famous copper mark (the earlier version of their mark; an "S&S with a W" and the letter "B" - for Birmingham underneath.)
William Souter and Sons was founded in the 1860s, the firm started out making brass fittings for plumbers but by the 1870s had moved into domestic holloware, particularly kettles for which they are best known. Their factory closed in 1927.
The kettle has definitely been well used and has many dents and dings. "Aged to perfection" it is the perfect copper kitchen display item, plenty of authentic patina for major impact. It comes with a kettle stand, not the original, but a great added accessory to display the kettle to it's maximum potential. It sits majestically on the stand.
Although most likely to now be used as a decorative piece, it does however remain sound.

The kettle has a brass handle, trim and knob. The base has "rounded" slightly with age and use; it certainly has plenty of "personality"!
It is large, standing 30cms/ 11 ¾" tall (without the stand.) It is 27cms/ 10 ½" wide, including the spout.
*Please note that the winding mechanism wheel, on the stand, designed to move the wick up and down has a slight bend, so whilst the wick still moves up and down it does independently of the winding wheel.
Together they weigh 1.9kgs/ 4.1 lbs.
