This is an amazing stack of 8 mixed game bird plates/bowls, in eight different designs, a "ready-to-display" set for your china hutch/vintage dresser.
Ideal for decorating kitchen walls or for celebrations/ weddings/ shabby chic dinner parties.
This is a "one of a kind" plate collection, sumptuously ornate plates, rare and collectible.
All these plates are French, dating from the 1920's to the 1980's.
Altogether they weigh 2.8kgs/ 6.1 lbs!
The stack is made up of:
Four "Limoges Porcelain" dinner plates, with gorgeous fluted "gilded" filigree "bows" edge borders, measuring 22cms/ 8½" diameter. There is one each of a Pheasant, Partridge, Snipe and Grouse, illustrated in their natural habitats. The colours and details of the illustrations are incredibly accurate and realistic. Beautiful Landscapes, in an autumnal palette that is timelessly elegant.
Two 1950s, "Limcolor, Terrassson, G. Brachet" bowls, measuring 23cms/ 9" diameter x 3cms/ 1" deep. The motifs are of pairs of Pheasant and Ducks. Antique white in colour, with an ochre and black edge and stunning border motifs, of Wild Boar, Deer and Hares. Exquisite in their attention to detail, with the fields and trees of the backgrounds, in a muted palette of subtle, autumnal tones, giving them a sophisticated, timeless quality.
Two "Longchamp France" plates in a square design, softened at the edges. They have a gold patterned trim and measure 22cms/ 8½" square. The illustrations are Grouse and Partridge, the motifs are slightly off-centre, giving them an added charm.
They are all in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. Aesthetically pleasing to the eye. They may have the faintest wear to the gilding and motifs, consistent with their age and use, and the faintest beginnings of "hairline crackle" to the glazes, which is to be expected with the age of these plates, and in no way detracts from the beauty or quality of this beautiful plate stack. They have many years of service yet to offer.
These exquisite, stylish plates would look wonderful displayed in a hunting lodge/country manor setting.
