This set of six vintage French, 'Gien', fish plates are the perfect gift for anglers, rare and collectible they date from the late 1950's.
All these plates are in excellent condition, for their near 70 year age, with no chips or cracks. They are antique white in color, only one of them has the 'Gien, France' mark on the underside.
They are very flat in shape, with a subtle 'gilt' line edge finish.
Each plate measure 25cms / 9¾" diameter and each weighs 500gms / 1.1 lbs.
Gien was founded in 1821 and is today the number one producer of the highest quality earthenware in France.
There are six different designs illustrating various pairs of fish swimming amongst water weeds in lakes/rivers. The colours are muted, subtle greens and grey/blues. The fish are accurately represented, dynamic in movement, with gorgeous detailing on the heads, fins and tails.
