This platter would make an exquisite gift for a seafood chef or an excellent house warming present for those living near the sea.
Dating from the 1960's it has a white 'foam' surface glaze layer that contrasts beautifully with the warm, 'speckled' beige colored background. It is fascinating to look at and has twelve 'oyster shell-shaped' depressions. The three central 'wells' could be used to stylishly serve your lemons ready for squeezing onto the seafood. It could also be used for scallops.
It has been hand painted so is completely unique and original.
It is in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks or scratches. It measures 33cms/ 13" diameter and weighs 1.2 kgs/2.6lbs.
The pottery factory in Niderviller, one of the oldest in Lorraine Region of France, is the only one in the region to have manufactured porcelain with Sarreguemines earthenware. The manufacture was created at Niderviller (Moselle) in 1735. The last photo shows the 'Niderviller' pottery mark from one of the matching plates, as the one on the base of this platter is too faint to photograph.
