This is a set of two fabulous, early 1940's, French stoneware pots with lids. They are gorgeous accent pieces for a period kitchen / rustic farmhouse. Excellent for storing kitchen utensils or as planters for herbs. Perfect for tea, coffee or sugar too!

They date from the early 1940's and are handmade, and therefore have a charming, slightly uneven, surface texture and rough glaze style. The smaller pot has a glossy glaze and is stamped 'Grès de Bonny' on the base, the larger has a matt finish. This pottery, based in the Loire region of France, started manufacturing in 1881 and finally closed its doors in 2014.

Both pots are salt glazed, with two handles, and lids.
The largest pot weighs 1.2kgs / 2.6 lbs. It stands 15cms / 6" tall, is 12cms / 4¾" diameter (at the base) 15cms/ 6" wide to the handles. The opening is 9.5cms / 3¾".
The smaller pot weighs 800gms / 1.7 lbs. It stands 12.5cms / 5" tall, is 10cms / 4" diameter (at the base) 12cms/ 4¾" wide to the handle. The opening is 7.5cms / 3".

They are in excellent condition, still watertight and clean. Utterly charming, they have odd 'nibbles' and undulations in the clay and glaze, and some flaws and gouges that were present at the firing and glazing stages, 'Aged to perfection', they have no chips. Just a few marks, consistent with their age, but nothing at all to detract from their beauty or functionality. They are authentic and original.

Their earthy color makes them the perfect accessories for French provincial interiors.
